Guy Fawkes 1570 – 1606
Just over 400 years ago Guy Fawkes, or Guido Fawkes as he was known to the Spanish was found beneath the House of Lords guarding his explosives. On today’s date in 1605 the provincial Catholics set about to assassinate the Protestant King James I, and replace him with the Catholic head of state, a plan known now as the failed gun powder plot.
